About Explore Microscopy
Explore Microscopy STEPCon Experience
I created Explore Microscopy in 2010 as a way to help provide microscopy outreach to students in the San Bernardino and Riverside County areas of Southern California. I operate outreach displays using high quality, Olympus BH-2 and SZH microscopes, with rare and interesting specimens for hands-on demonstrations.
Specimens include live pond life, antique slides of insects, diatom arrangements, microscopic animals, even elephant hair and ancient ancient Egyptian papyrus. Cancer cells, and a thin slice of a meteorite, under polarized light, with bubbles on the edge from the heat of atmospheric entry, are also displayed.
Since its inception well over 67,000 students have had the opportunity to look through my microscopes at outreach events.
Please watch the STEPCon video, and see the Outreach page for images of the kids, displays, and specimens shown.
